My picture story paintings continue my basic explorations into the interactions between ordinary people in everyday settings. They are part of my representational figurative paintings in a Contemporary Social Realism style, but each is with an emotional hook.

Many later period Social Realism paintings, like mine, were bright and colorful, drawing in the viewer with their vibrancy. My paintings follow the contemporary trend of the last decade, where in the movement is being resurrected as figurative scenes.

My paintings are found in many private and corporate collections, and collected internationally.

It was a great time for all, but times change. Bellevue became too cost prohibitive for the group so we each ventured our own way. the Living Artist Gallery is now the personal Website of G. L. Handon; that's me - the sole survivor and founder.

Here you will find samples of some of my paintings, graphics, illustrations and other artistic creations. Until recently, most would consider me a painter using traditional media. However, with the advent of digital painting tools, I find myself delving deeper into the digital art realm. Color seems to be my gift. Nevertheless, becoming an artist is a dream come true for me, even if the most recent among many other realized dreams... like having a family, raising and training my own horses, living “out West,” traveling to exotic places and spending gobs of time in Hawaii.

Some ideas take time and thought to mature. Subject matter and the techniques used vary considerably but all grow from the same base.

Many of my images have a sense of expectancy in them, a tendency to the surreal. In an overwhelmingly technical and faceless world, the response I hope for is emotional and soulful

To this end I am a painter in oil because of the richness and depth of colour and tone one can achieve; but I have used and loved watercolour and simple drawing in graphite and conte crayon.
